Dra. Astrid Vandenhole

Astrid is a physiotherapist with a specialisation in internal disorders. After completing her degree, she started a PhD to contribute to research aimed at improving clinical practice and healthcare quality, while remaining involved in patient care.

Her research is part of the FWO-TBM funded BECOME project, which investigates the effectiveness of BoostEd COMpression for the treatment of lower limb chronic Edema. Her research focuses on patients with chronic edema of the lower limbs, comparing standard care with an intensified compression approach in which compression bandages are reapplied three times a day. The study evaluates how this intensified approach influences the treatment process and maintenance of edema, while also examining outcomes such as patients’ quality of life, therapy adherence, patient acceptance, time efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

Through her PhD research, she aims to contribute to improving the quality of life of patients with chronic conditions and to further optimize existing treatment approach.
